Many companies ask their applicants if they have a criminal record before they hire them. One such company had this practice, but did not follow through with actually conducting criminal record checks. “Occasionally”, they reported “An applicant will admit to a record but be able to explain to us what it is and then we can decide what action to take, if any. But admissions are rare”.
We asked them to try BackCheck’s criminal record checking service. To their surprise, over a 3 month period, 17% of their applicants had criminal records, and most were completely dishonest about their having records in the first place. Their business had become a target for criminals. (They hired approximately 50 people per month in total, 9 of whom had criminal records) One year later, since instilling a BackCheck process, their business has experienced tremendous improvement in every aspect, in no small part due to their hiring more suitable candidates.
